Derrick Hickman

Many times I seek and post about artists. Sometimes artists make me aware of themselves through emails or invitation to shows. Derrick Hickman made me aware of his work through email and I am glad he did. I am excited to collect knowledge about artists that use text. After I know enough artists that use text, I want to propose an exhibition of these artists to a few places. Hickman's diary on canvas reminds me of Robert Indiana's work although Hickman's work is more about personal narrative than popular culture. However, there is a stylistic connection between the two works. Both artists use text in a playful and less serious style. This work made in 2006 is titled 'Horse Head.'
