HCG Gallery is a Dallas, TX gallery in the design district. The gallery has some really strange works. A lot of the artists are doing nothing new or extraordinarily innovative. I have seen this type of work in many galleries across the nation. Some of the artists are interesting, but still not a lot of new type of work. I say this, but this doesn't mean that I think it is a bad thing that much of the work is not new. A reinvestigation into formalist painting can be a good pursuit. The notion that everything must be new is an outdated avant-garde idea. Newness can lead art into a fetish and fashion, rather than into a pursuit of truth and beauty.
