Early Kentucky Artists

Frank Duveneck

Helen M. Turner

Being raised in Kentucky, I was worried that my state might not have a rich history of artists that originated from the state, but thankfully, my worries were laid to rest with a little research. I ran across these two Impressionist style artists from around the turn of the century. Helen M. Turner's and Frank Duveneck's paintings seem to have a highly skilled uses of paint and rendering, and a clear connection to their European counterparts. And although, not born in Kentucky, John James Audubon did his most important work, "Birds of America" in Kentucky.
